If you’re interested in leading like Jesus and in helping others to do so too, you may want to download a free a document offered by the Committee on Evangelization and Catechesis of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.

Disciples Called to Witness: The New Evangelization is a 31-page PDF file that can assist you in several ways.
It provides brief, but helpful background about the church’s teaching on discipleship and evangelization, from the Gospels, Acts, the Second Vatican Council, and the writings of Popes Paul VI, John Paul II and Benedict XVI.

  • It describes the role all Catholics are called to fulfill by virtue of their baptism, confirmation and reception of the Eucharist.
  • It reminds us that all that we hope to accomplish must be done in a spirit of love for others, reflected in our openness and willingness to listen, and this is especially true when trying to relate to our inactive brothers and sisters.
  • It offers practical strategies to points readers to other resources in trying to make themselves, their families and their parishes warm and inviting environments where God’s love for everyone is manifest.

If you recognize much from the core content of The Catholic Vision for Leading Like Jesus in this new document, it should come as no surprise. Both are rooted in the Gospels and the rich teaching tradition of the church. But we especially appreciated its references to the notions of apprenticeship and stewardship as inherent in discipleship. and its reminder that all good which comes from our efforts is the work of the Holy Spirit.
